Pets that Blog: Meet Oz the Terrier

Introduce yourself:

I am the great and powerful Oz the Terrier.  I am a Cairn Terrier, like Toto from the movie The Wizard of Oz however unlike Toto, I do not like to chase wicked witches…I prefer to chase bunnies.

Everyone knows me as Oz the Terrier but at home, I am Oscar (and Oz and sometimes even Munchie, because Ma claims I am “her little munchkin” – yet another Wizard of Oz reference).

I will be 9 years old in September

How you came into your parents lives:

Well, Ma knew she always wanted a Toto-dog and she actually tried contacting some breeders through the Cairn Terrier Club, but no one even responded back to her.

She then tried looking for a Cairn Terrier (or Cairn mix) on local shelter websites (since she says she cannot go into a shelter without feeling like she should come home with all the dogs) and still nothing.  Daddy-dog heard about how one of our local shelters was taking some puppies who were saved from a Puppy Mill that bred all kinds of terriers (including Cairns!) and he made some calls.  Ma got to pick me out from all the saved puppies and take me home.

Why do you blog?

Well, Ma is a writer and I think she passed her love of writing on to me.  When I started my blog, I had no clear direction with my writing…I was all over the place.  But then I realized that I loved writing about my travels as well as writing poetry!  And gosh, you cannot write poetry and not share it with the world.  What is the fun in just keeping poems to yourself?!?

What is your favorite post?

Oh dawg, I have to pick just one post?!?  I LOVE ALL my poems.  But if I have to pick, I would say my favorite is my ‘An Ode on Bacon’ (  I wrote it a long time ago (in 2010) but I don’t think many have even read it.

What post do you like the least?

I’m not sure which post I like least.  Maybe one of my early posts before I found my “voice” but I couldn’t tell you which one.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Well, I would say being part of an amazing community of dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, rats (and all manner of animal life) and animal lovers from all over the world.  I love reading about what everyone is doing, learning, eating and where they are traveling.  I love that the Pet Blogging community is always willing to lend a helping paw too.  It is an amazing group and I am proud to be a part of it.

What do you dislike about blogging?

That there are only 24 hours in a day to write and read and comment on so many great blog posts!  I always feel bad when I miss something because I run out of blog reading time.

Sneak peek on future posts? (if you want to share)

Well, if you can believe it I STILL have Limericks from my March challenge to post (I got so many entries).  I will be traveling to another Florida State Park soon and I am sure I will post about my adventures there.  I may even have a product review or two coming!

What blogs do you read that you would like to share?

Oh boy.  I read A LOT.  I have a good size list posted on My Friends page on my blog but that list doesn’t include them all.  I hate to only name a few but OK…as long as everyone understands that I would list them ALL if there was room (BOL).

Another Poet/Writer – McGuffy Ann (

Other Travelers – Roxy the Traveling Dog ( and Terrier Torrent (

Pure Fun – Molly the Wally (  and Sweet William the Scot (

What are your thoughts on spaying/neutering?

Well, I have missing parts that I really don’t miss so…I guess I am for spaying/neutering.

Anything else you want to add about you?

Not really except that I love to make new friends so everyone is invited to come visit me and hang around for some fun at my blog or on Twitter (@Oz_theterrier) or on Facebook (page – Oz the Terrier)!
