How old are you?
I am 8.5 years young but I don’t feel a day over 4. Most people when they meet think I am still a puppy. I think it is all about how old you feel.
Where did your name come from?
The way my mommy tells it, she had my name picked out before we even met. She loves anything with peanuts but she can’t eat them cause she is allergic, and pumpkin pie is her favorite. She put the two together on a whim and thought they would make an interesting name. When she met me though, they just fit. She asked me if I wanted to be her little Peanut, and I said yes. My fur was the color of yummy pumpkin, and I love my mommy’s pumpkin pie. It all just worked out in the end.
How did you come to be with your forever family?
My mommy indoor kitty had gotten out of the house when some workmen were doing construction on it. She ran away and mommy couldn’t find her, even though she went door to door and handed out fliers. She was heartbroken and pined for months. Grammy finally encouraged her to find a little baby to love to help heal her heart. That is when she found me. It was love at first sight. I knew I had waited my whole life for her to come and save me. My mommy and my very best friend. I was 4 weeks old when we first met. Mommy had to wait two whole weeks before they would let her take me home. We have been inseparable ever since.
How do you and the 3 cats get along?
I love my kitty sisters, as long as they don’t try to touch me with their paws or bite my fuzzy toes. For some reason, they really like to bite my fuzzy toes and that scares me.
What about you and other dogs?
I get along with other dogs really well. Mommy and I have been socializing since I was a baby and we go to lots of events in the community. I have met so many different kinds of dogs in the process. I do really well, and mommy is always saying how proud she is of me.
What is your favorite thing to do?
That is a hard one cause I love to do so many things. I love being with my mommy and playing games with her. I love grooming my toys cause they get really messy and need to be cleaned, and I love the snow, especially eating it. If I could play with mommy in the snow while grooming a toy, that would be the best thing ever!
Do you have some fun facts you can share with everyone that they might not know about Pomeranians?
We are snow dogs even with our small size. We were bred down from much larger stock to the size we now have. Our hearts are still the same and so is our drive. Some sites like to describe Poms as independent and aloof, but that just isn’t true. Poms are highly social pups who bond very strongly to their person. Remember, we have a double layer coat like other Arctic breeds, so if you find us laying off alone, by ourselves, chances are, we are hot. VERY hot. Trying wearing a fur coat in summer and you will know what I mean. Keep us cool and we are as cuddly as the next lapdog.
Anything else you would like to share with us about you or your family?
My mommy is the novelist H.L. Stephens, and I help her write her books. In fact, I inspire her all the time. Her Chronicles of Mister Marmee books are full of animals of every kind, and they are fun to read. She is a big animal advocate, and she tries to lend a voice to the voiceless through her work in a way that is fun and entertaining. I make sure she adds plenty of adventure and humor because that makes books interesting, but there are always moments of poignancy throughout. We have been writing together pretty much my whole life. We make a great team. We have been through a lot together. I got really sick and almost died this year from contaminated dog food. It damaged my liver and my gall bladder. I am getting better now, and I obviously don’t eat that food anymore. Mommy makes everything I eat from scratch now. Moments like that though really help put things in perspective. Yep, mommy and me, we make a great team, no matter what we are doing together. I just hope puppies all around the world can be as lucky as me.
