My name is Skylar. I am a registered therapy cat. I was 2 years old in April.
My mommy cat had me in a pole barn. I have 5 brothers. A little boy and his friends scarred our mother away. The lady brought us in and bottle fed us when she had time. My mommy agreed to take us in. We were 3 weeks old at that time. Mommy met the lady at the vet. Mommy said we were so weak from not eating enough that we were just laying flat in the tote.
After we ate every 2 hours for a couple of days, we were up on our feet. When we were old enough to find our own homes, mommy started taking us to the adoption center. All 5 of my brothers were adopted. I was 10 months old when mommy got an adoption call on me, by then, mommy had fallen in love with me and could not let me go. Mommy told me that I could stay if I became a therapy cat. I liked that idea. I just love attention from people. I was not scarred of all of my brother and sisters in our home. I just put them in their place if they bothered me. I might be small, but I am determined.
When I started out in therapy, I just dropped in to visit where ever I could.. I had been to nursing homes, the hospital and peoples homes. It was hard to find a place that would except me because I was in training and not registered. I am now registered and I have a permanent place where I go in and visit. I go there at least once a week to see my friends.
Sometimes I go in an extra day and go see some of my friends that can not come to the activity center to see me. My first friend that I met there is in a wheelchair and she was very new there. She cried 2 times the first day I met her. She missed her kitty so much. I loved on her to make her feel better. The next time I went to see her, I took her a stuffed kitty cat that looks like me. She loves her kitty so much. She no longer cry’s when I am there. She comes and sees me every time I am there. Now that I am registered, I will be able to go more places and do more things.
The nursing home said that they are always in need for throws to keep the residents warm. I am collecting them and prayer shawls so I can have a Christmas party for my friends and give them a couple of gifts each. My friends are doing a great job helping me make and collect these things. I am so excited that I can do this to help my friends.
